From the moment they enter Seseh village and cross the threshold of Villa Belong Dua, guests will experience the warm hospitality, history and culture of Bali. The name of the villa is taken from a stone water vessel, dating back to a time when these containers could be found in every household, and were used every day to store water for drinking and washing. Several original antique belongs are showcased at the villa, along with an antique ’jineng’, which is a traditional thatched Balinese rice barn and a symbol of social status, indicating that the family who owned it had land for rice culture. The jineng now serves as a place to relax or as a playhouse for kids. The villa’s imposing entrance gate is a copy of an 8th century Hindu temple gate at Angkor Wat in Cambodia and, after passing through this, guests will cross a lily pond complete with a bubbling water feature and a Balinese guardian statue. There is also an antique ’bale gede’ from Bali’s royal Gianyar regency. This lovely old open-sided pavilion made from the timber structure of a Balinese 2 bedroom pavilion was also used for Balinese ceremonies and is now used for relaxation and massage. Villa Belong Dua sits in a traditional street, which is well lit at night. A nearby pathway offers walks through the village to the river, rice fields and beach.

The living pavilion is located close to the main entrance, overlooking the garden and pool. Distinguished by a vaulted roof supported by eight wooden pillars, and open on three sides, it is furnished with a comfy, oversized daybed, and a low dining table sourced from a Javanese ’warung’ (eatery), surrounded by floor cushions. A large mirror reflects the sunny garden, and the pavilion is beautifully lit at night.

Behind the living pavilion is an air-conditioned media room, which doubles as an office it is fitted with built-in desks, sofa area equipped with a Satellite TV and DVD player.

The semi-open-air dining room shares a pavilion with the kitchen, and the two rooms are linked via a service bar that can be closed for privacy. The dining room is furnished with an antique table, six chairs, and an antique wooden chest on wheels, known as a ’gerobog’ originally used for storing rice. There is also an iPod and dock. The room is cooled by ceiling fans and natural breezes, and has the provision of electric blinds on the two open sides in case of rain or strong wind. A guest washroom is positioned to one side of the dining room. The immaculate polished kitchen is fully equipped with a five-burner gas hob and oven, fridge and everything else that the cook needs to create delicious meals.

The two bedrooms are in separate stand-alone pavilions named ’Menaga’ and ’Bangkat’, these names that go back to the time when the village of Seseh was much bigger and administratively divided into three ’banjars’ or local village councils. Each bedroom features an open-air terrace at the front, lit by colonial-style bell-jar lanterns; Bangkat’s terrace is furnished with an antique daybed on wheels, and Menaga’s terrace with a built-in cushioned daybed. Each romantic air-conditioned bedroom is furnished with a king-size netted bed upon a wooden floor complete with a shag pile rug, under a soaring roof. The walls are cream with terracotta tiling behind the bed, and each bedroom is equipped with a wall-mounted LCD screen satellite-channel TV and DVD player. Sliding doors can be opened for cross ventilation and the rooms also have the additional facility of ceiling fans. Each bedroom opens into a delightful, air-conditioned bathroom, decorated in earthy tones. Bangkat’s bedroom has a charming, spacious dressing room off the bathroom, furnished with a wardrobe, chair and a dressing table that doubles as a desk. Bangkat bedroom boasts a recycled timber floor, and a dressing area with a built in wardrobe, a long mirror, and an antique dressing table. Each en-suite bathroom is fitted with a sculptured terrazzo bathtub for two, and double washbasins upon a terrazzo vanity unit, which faces a window to ensure plenty of natural light. Glass doors can be opened for a semi-alfresco bathing experience, complete with an outdoor rain shower set in a private walled courtyard with a pebbled floor and a serene Buddha statue. There is also a handheld shower in each bathtub, and a circular skylight that channels the moonshine.

The large garden at Villa Belong Dua is gorgeous, characterised by mature trees and open skies, with a dazzling 20 x 4 metre swimming pool as its central feature. The slate-lined pool is presided over by a Buddha head statue; it presents a separate shallow section for children and is bordered by a candi stone deck furnished with one double and two single Sunbrella sun beds. There is also the thoughtful provision of an outdoor pool shower. The fragrant landscaped garden has a velvety lawn, and is planted with coconut palms, frangipani, lemon and mango trees, pineapple plants, ginger and lemongrass. It is surrounded by a rustic wall crafted from crushed paras’s stone applied by hand and unpainted. A Balinese temple shrine rests in the northeast corner.

The antique ’bale gede’ is a traditional open-sided pavilion, originally used for Balinese ceremonies such as the Potong Gigi (Tooth Filing Ceremony), and now rests beside the swimming pool. Furnished with two timber built-in beds, some step stools taken from an old sugar cane press and a prayer table, it is a perfect spot for couples to enjoy a massage, or just chill out with a good book. It is constructed of twelve wooden pillars resting on paras’s stone plinths, which support a roof of radiating beam work crowned with alang alang thatch.

Location
A few kilometres to the northwest of Canggu, a towering banyan-one of the ’elders’ of the tree kingdom-heralds the turning to Seseh, a traditional beachside village approached via an avenue of coconut palms.

The village of Seseh still retains the customs and culture of old Bali. Here, you will see the rice being planted and harvested in the fields, fishing boats returning in the morning with the nights catch, as well as frequent, colourful processions to the large beachside temple. There are no international restaurants here, but you might just see a barong dancing on the street. A Barong is a high-spirited, benevolent beast representing the power of good; danced by two men inside an ornate costume. The good news, for folks who want to immerse themselves in the customs and culture of old Bali, is that the people of Seseh encourage and welcome congenial visitors. There are now a number of private rental villas in this area, which have seamlessly integrated without in any way detracting from the simplicity and charm of the two villages.

Historically, the fishing village of Seseh was important in the 18th century when the temple was established as the major temple of the former Kingdom of Mengwi. At that time it was also a small trading port, inhabited by a number of families of Chinese decent. Likewise there are records of Chinese-style shop houses in Banjar Sogsogan during this period.

Today, this is an ideal destination for those who want to get lost in the beauty of the countryside, and for those who want to engage with the local people and gain privileged insights into the Balinese Hindu lifestyle.

A puri is a small Balinese palace; Puri Temple reflects the near proximity to a quaint Hindu temple overlooked from the villa’s large first floor balcony. Here from the comfort of a lounge/dining area (sits 8 ) shaded under a traditional balé (gazebo) guests can also enjoy views of the pool and tropical garden below. In the evenings you can hear the distant sounds of the waves crashing on the beach to the west, and in the early mornings you can see the mountain to the east.

With an open air bar/kitchen adjacent to the balcony, this is a great spot to indulge in drinks and barbeques whilst enjoying the audacious sunsets over Bali’s west coast. Inside on the first floor one finds the TV room; complete with flat screen TV/DVD player, satellite channels and lounging for 6 people. Next door a large open room houses the 9’ American pool table – the perfect party room with tasteful artwork, a high table and bar stools, plus iPod docking and CD player. A private balcony with rattan easy chairs runs in front of the master bedroom. Sliding glass doors lead into this well furnished bedroom with queen sized bed and a large walk through wardrobe with safe. Like all the bedrooms in this villa, the master bedroom enjoys both air conditioning and ceiling fans, plus an attractive en-suite complete with bathtub, standing power shower and granite vanity unit.

The large ‘L’ shaped ground floor structure hugs an ‘L’ shaped swimming pool with a whirlpool feature. Attractive white palimanan stone surrounds the pool, where pool toys are provided. All-weather rattan lounges provide both shaded and sunbathing spots where guests can laze their days away being served by their personal butler. Two guest bedrooms look onto the pool and garden area; one with twin beds and en-suite, the other with a queen sized bed and lush outdoor bathroom. Both have walk through wardrobes and safety deposit boxes.

Also looking out over the pool and garden is a large room housing a modern and well equipped kitchen, plus comfortable lounge and dining areas which can be closed off with concertina sliding glass doors and air conditioned, or opened onto the garden encompassing the best in tropical living design. The impressive solid wood dining table sits 8 beside a wall unit displaying artifacts from Bali and the wider Indonesian archipelago, plus a book and CD collection and stereo unit with iPod docking.

The service at Puri Temple is exemplary; the charmingly Balinese housekeeper and butler will shop for you and look after guests’ every need, whilst a chef will cook delicious organic meals from a suggestion menu (provisions on guest account) and can also arrange personal detox programs. All the staff can speak English, whilst a western manager lives nearby who welcomes guest on arrival and is on hand should they be needed. There is also security at the villa at night and a maid’s bedroom if required. Our resident butler can arrange a car and driver for guests and can recommend a variety of activities including a water park, rafting, golf, horse riding, surfing lessons, helicopter flights, diving, yoga, massage, spa treatments, or simply a trip to the shops, beach, and temple or rice fields.

Two extra bedrooms, with queen beds, are located in small villas next door at Puri Temple 2 (there is a connecting, lockable door from the grounds of the main villa). Puri Temple is located in Banjar Canggu, however Canggu has become the collective name for a number of villages on Bali’s west coast which, despite lying within one of the islands most sort after residential areas, can still be described as a sleepy coastal locale.

The popular Echo beach, just a short walk, is a great spot for surfing, sunset drinks or dinner at one of the restaurants overlooking the beach. Sundays at The Beach house barbecue are now a Mecca for expatriates and tourists alike. Two minutes drive away is an Olympic sized public swimming pool with a kid’s pool and slide. The Canggu Club (10 minutes drive) has excellent facilities to play tennis and a well equipped gym.

You can enjoy both western and Indonesian cuisine at not only The Beach House at Echo beach but Sol, Sate Bali, Sticky Fingers or La Sal too. Sol & Sate Bali are recommended for authentic Indonesian cuisine. Spanish Seminyak eatery La Sal now serves fantastic tapas in Canggu. The closest bar/restaurant to the villa is Deus Ex Machina who serves the best Thai food on the island in a wonderfully eclectic gallery setting. The nearby Tugu hotel offers superb fine dining in a variety of unique dining settings from private banquet rooms to intimate settings on walkways above a large lotus pond. The Canggu Club has its own club house style restaurant open to the public. Adjacent is the Canggu Deli supermarket and The Loop restaurant. Bali’s best shopping district is a 20 minute drive away in Seminyak.

The Kuda P stables in Pererenan, and the Umalas stables can arrange horse rides on the beach. Along the coast to the north of Canggu is the Nirwana Bali Golf Club which was designed by Greg Norman and is frequently voted the number one golf course in Asia. Next to this is Pura Tanah Lot; a sea temple perched high on a craggy wave-lashed rock and probably the most photographed sight in Bali.

Outdoor Living
Villa Sam is part of a family owned complex with around the clock security and ample parking for private vehicles. The villa is nestled within its own compound and is accessed via an elaborately carved Balinese gate. A series of stepping stones that cross a small lotus pond reveal a generous sized garden filled with native plants and other species of tropical greenery.

The five bedroom villa, surrounded on two sides by rice fields, provides a wide choice of areas for dining and entertaining. Balconies and verandas have been positioned to maximize the panoramic views and the cooling tropical breezes.

Living & Dining
Welcoming guests with its generous size and openness, the living room offers a sweeping view of the pool, gardens and adjacent rice fields. Cooled by ceiling fans and natural ventilation, the room is furnished with cream leather sofas, chairs and bar stools. The centerpiece is an impressive iron chandelier designed by the owners. There is a polished granite party bar with fridge and sink, and a round table with chairs for intimate dining.

A stairway leads down to the dining room, located on ground level next to the pool terrace. The room is furnished with a three meter long table which seats ten. Folding glass doors offer guests cool alfresco dining and the ambience is enhanced by water sounds emanating from adjacent ornamental ponds, water spouts and bubbling urns.

Kitchen and Media Room
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything the chef needs to prepare delicious meals in accordance with the requests of each guest. A wet kitchen and a laundry room are both tucked away at the back, along with the staff entrance.

The air-conditioned media room is equipped with a 32-inch LCD flat screen TV, DVD player and sound system. This comfortable room is furnished with two deeply-cushioned sofas, traditional batik cushions, a games table with Plexiglas chairs, and an innovative glass topped coffee table created by hand from coffee-wood branches.

ACCOMMODATION

Master Suite
The Master Suite is accessed by an elevated covered walkway. A sliding door opens to reveal the air-conditioned office/living room, complete with antique desk, chairs and original artwork on the walls.

The Master Bedroom shows a splendid king-size, canopied bed, dressed in white linens and mosquito netting. The views from this room and balcony are breathtaking. The balcony is furnished with a cushioned day bed, rattan armchairs and a dining table for a private breakfast or lunch. This is also a wonderful spot for sunset cocktails.

The en-suite air-conditioned bathroom boasts a cream-colored marble floor, an abundance of wall mirrors, and an oval-shaped terrazzo bathtub for two and twin marble washbasins. A toilet cubicle and a separate shower are each entered via frosted glass doors. There is a large closet and dressing area with built-in wardrobes, drawers and plenty of storage space. A safe deposit box and mini-bar fridge can be found in the dressing area.

Guests Suite
This generous bedroom is furnished with antiques and artwork, an Oriental rug and a king-size, four-poster steel bed. The bed has elaborate white mosquito netting which allows guests to sleep with the folding glass doors open to the rice field views, or to choose the option of air-conditioning.

The Guest Suite is equipped with a safe deposit box and a mini-bar fridge. A beautiful old cabinet holds a TV and DVD player. The dressing area and en-suite bathroom follow the same layout and have the same amenities as the Master Suite. The wide wrap around white Palimanan stone terrace is furnished with an antique carved Timorese table and chairs for private dining, or just relaxing and viewing the rice fields.

Guest House
The free standing Guest House is located on the far side of the living and dining pavilion on ground level. The furnishings include a queen size, four-poster bed fashioned from carved teak, with exquisite white linens and mosquito netting; an antique cabinet housing a TV and DVD player and a writing table and chairs.

The air-conditioned bathroom has a marble floor and a dressing area with fitted wardrobes, huge mirrors, and louvered doors which hide a safe deposit box and mini bar fridge. Double marble topped vanity units support large glass washbowls with teak cupboards and shelves. The toilet cubicle and separate shower are each located behind frosted glass doors.

Glass doors lead to an open air bathroom romantically lit by unique wall lamps. An oversize bathtub is sheltered under the roof eaves, and there is an outdoor rain shower for moonlit bathing.

Villa Avalon Ground
The 16 x 3 meter, blue slate tiled swimming pool has a waterfall at one end, two infinity edges, and is anchored by a Pendopo, used as a Relaxation Pavilion. This ancient structure is the core of a 150-year old wooden Joglo house from Java. Furnished with a rustic table, a deeply cushioned rattan sofa and chairs, this raised pavilion, with its antique terracotta tiled floor is another delightful area for dining, entertaining and relaxing. There is a granite topped bar for serving at the back of the structure. The white Palimanan stone pool terrace is shaded by sweet-scented white frangipani trees; there are four sun beds and two umbrellas.

The expansive gardens are dotted with palm trees and white-flowering shrubs and trees. Open to the rice fields on one side with a view unbroken by walls or fences, the property expands its borders.

Water is a predominant element in the spiritual landscape of Bali. This is reflected throughout the property, but especially in the enchanting water garden between the bedroom pavilion and the living/dining pavilion. The pond features white lotus and bulrushes, and is planted with white orchids and a frangipani tree on an island. Two serene Buddha statues sit in stone caves against a backdrop of flowing water to complete this beautiful water feature.

Staff
Villa Avalon is supported by a carefully selected team of highly trained and experienced staff members who will ensure that guests experience a truly enjoyable stay in Bali. The team includes an in-house chef, a head houseman, housekeepers, a full time gardener and three security guards. The chef is trained in the preparation of both local and international cuisine, and is responsible for the market shopping.

Villa Anyar
The largest villa on the estate has beautiful mature gardens, a large pool with a spacious deck and bale, indoor and outdoor entertaining areas and four stylish, light-filled bedrooms. The luxury Bali villa is laid out on three floors. On the ground floor a self-contained kitchen, one king-size bedroom, a living area and an elegant garden bathroom can be enclosed to create a private apartment. This leads out through folding glass doors to a terrace that wraps around the house and features a barbecue area and a pool table.

Upstairs another large terrace offers fantastic views of the surrounding rice fields, the garden and pool. The outdoor dining area leads from an open kitchen where a cook offers full time catering or guests can enjoy preparing their own meals. A spacious lounge area surrounded by folding glass doors can be left open to the fresh breezes or closed to enjoy air-conditioned comfort. Choose from a large library of movies and watch on the flat screen TV, sinking into deeply cushioned sofas.

This large 3 bedroom villa situated on a 1300 sq m on the edge of rice terraces has been designed so that guests can enjoy the unsurpassed views from almost the entire villa. The stunning 18m x 7 meter split level living / dining area has been designed for relaxation and entertainment and provides optimum enjoyment of the unsurpassed Rice paddy and unforgettable Sunset views. This area with its high Alang-Alang traditional ceilings, the cool terracotta floor tiles and natural cream walls is the very essence of tropical living. Overhead, gun-metal coated Ceiling fans and the gentle breeze blowing in from the rice paddy ensure everyone is kept cool. Ample seating is provided in the lounge area so everyone can relax in and listen to the excellent surround sound speakers discretely hidden in the ceiling.

The dinning area houses a solid wood Dining table that comfortably seats 8 with adjoining bar to enjoy that pre dinner cocktail. The Bedroom Suites
The villa has a large Master bedroom suite with 5 x 5 M Master bedroom with adjoining office, large Master Bathroom and Private Garden with its own relaxation Bale looking out to the idyllic rice field view.

Both the Master and Guest Bathroom have fabulous rice field views with large Glass and louvered sliding doors opening out to large balconies that allow guests to enjoy an early morning coffee watching the local villagers tend the rice fields or enjoy a quiet evening drink watching the fabulous red sunset over the west Coast. High Alang Alang ceilings and the cool and clean feel of the Traditional BenKiri floors have been used throughout the Master and Guest Bedrooms.

All Bedrooms have individual deluxe split air conditioning units. These two rooms have oversized king size Four poster beds and ample wardrobes and drawers for storage… The Bedroom interior has been very tastefully furnished with a balance of teak and modern rattan furniture and artifacts.

The quaint junior bedroom, located at the rear of the bedroom wing, features two built in single beds on cream terrazzo bases and opens out to a small private rear Garden with Frangipani tree. Crafted by two of the island’s most talented traditional builders, this is a structure of great beauty with a timeless patina which weaves state of the art technology into a fabulous fabric of antiquity. 400 year old timbers, richly carved paneling, coral, pebbles, limestone, marble and even re-cut Art Deco roof tiles decorate every aspect of the building.

Beneath this dramatic exterior, new buildings frame and stabilise an ancient 12 metre high ironwood and teak “jineng”, containing the ground floor media room (complete with giant cinema screen and foundation-shaking Yamaha sound system.) Upstairs, an unforgettable master bedroom, with soaring 6 metre ceilings and sweeping views of the surrounding rice paddies. The massive antique carved bedhead frames a king size bed and was once a prestigious house facade in Java. The bedroom leads onto a separate walk in robe (huge) complete with safe, and an exotic, hand-formed ensuite bathroom that’s straight out of the Arabian nights. This in turn opens onto the eye-popping Gaudi-esque outdoor shower, patterned entirely underfoot and on all sides with a dazzling collection of 1920s terrazzo tiles rescued from mansions being demolished in Java.

The villa features another 3 stunning bedrooms with beautiful ensuite bathrooms. One forms the upper floor of a separate smaller timber jineng which overhangs the huge 20 metre lpool, rimmed with carved stone and fed by spouting, 2 metre stone statues. Here you swim in drinkable water produced by a sophisticated colloidal silver purification plant. The pool also features an 8 metre waterslide made by the builders of Bali’s famous roller coaster waterslide centre, “Waterbom” in Kuta.

Like the country which inspired it, Villa RaJa is itself an unforgettable cultural experience. From the huge ‘fantastic creatures” front door (carved out of a 1000 year old sprawling lychee root) to the magnificent, carved Borobodur style taro stone gate; or the priceless antique Sumba stone ceremonial slab which serves as a bridge to the dining gazebo, which “floats” on a water lily pond, replete with giant fish. This is indeed a photographer’s paradise.

The Healthiest Villa in Bali
After 20 years of tolerating wrenching gut problems, twisted limbs from shonky architecture, lying awake to an insane cacophany of flirting geckos and fighting rodents, or sweltering in the heat while drowning in mosquito repellant, the owners decided that some aspects of their villa would be quintessentially un-Balinese.

Kitchen staff have been trained in Western standards of hygiene and prepare food in two impeccably clean and modern kitchens (one for guests, one for kitchen staff) but of course training is of little use in a country where an ice block in your gin and tonic can put you on your back for a week.

Water, water everywhere but not a drop you’d drink
If there is one thing as synonymous with Bali as beauty, it’s tourists laid down with Bali Belly. Bali’s water is decidedly 3rd world and everyone uses bottled water to drink, brush teeth etc. But it’s pretty well impossible, if not financially unviable, to wash food in bottled water, or shower and wash in it, which is why the owners have installed a state of the art water purification plant, again using the colloidal silver filtration system, the world’s most effective water purification technology (as used on the space shuttle.) Pure, totally safe drinking water is piped to all showers, basins etc in the house.

The living room provides the center point of Villa Bali Bali Two. Upstairs is a loft that serves as the audiovisual room. The living room is decorated in antiques from around the archipelago and featuring walls done in stone with wood detailing, it’s a place to entertain or merely relax. Floored in local sandstone, opening onto the garden and pool on one side and the dining room, that seats six, and a modern kitchen on the other, everything that one needs seems to be only steps away.

Local fabrics in earth tones adorn the villa, blending in well with the predominantly wood furniture, serving as a reminder of how important the soil is to the culture of Bali.

A Balinese shrine stands to one side of the swimming pool and looks down the large lawn that contains a bale for relaxing or massages. The villa is positioned to look out on to some of Bali’s world famous rice field terraces. Next to the villa, the swimming pool possesses an avant-garde design and a wooden deck running down one side.

With sliding doors providing access to the pool, the first bedroom has polished hardwood floors offset by white walls. The ensuite bathroom features a wooden floored shower and twin marble basins. All the bedrooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans.

Walking to the villa from the private driveway, guests are greeted by a charming statue of Saraswati, the Balinese Goddess of science and literature. Descending teak steps lead to the comfortable living space, with smart corner sofas set amidst a myriad of tribal decorations from across the Indonesian archipelago.

A mezzanine lounge has a built-in sofa, the perfect place to curl up with a book or to examine the underside of the complex roof, consisting of overlapping structures defining the boundaries of each room. Guests can also enjoy some audio-visual entertainment from the VCD, Stereo and TV center.

Tucked away on the left of the living space is the formal dining area. Built at a sunken level, the garden lawn rises to meet the top of a low open wall at the far end, level with the eight-seat teak dining table. An antique carved wooden screen separates the sleek modern kitchen and a skylit triangular-roofed corridor, decorated with an eye-catching showcase of mounted natural stones, leads to the bedrooms.

The delightful master bedroom has a mosquito-canopied king-sized four-poster bed and beautiful wall hangings of Balinese fabrics. Wide sliding glass doors access a secluded seating terrace and give the room a light naturally aerated feel. The ensuite bathroom boasts a circular sunken tub and wooden decked shower. Enhanced by the view of a flowering lily pond through a glass wall, this Balinese style semi-outdoors bathroom provides a welcome change from those of the West.

The second and third bedrooms, each with private access through a small mirrored hallway, share a twin-basin bathroom. The word Surya comes from the ancient Balinese language meaning sun. Enter the villa through traditional Balinese gates where palimanan stepping stones are surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens and fish ponds. The master bedroom situated downstairs is spacious with marble floors. Furnished with a king sized four poster bed and mosquito net, a lazy chair, bedside tables, a flat screen television with cable connection, fax machine and IDD telephone. The stunning marble bathroom en-suite features a large sunken bathtub, separate shower, toilet and double vanity. There is also a his and hers separate dressing area with safe deposit box. The romantic, 3-bedroom Villa Nawang Wulan blends contemporary tropical architecture with thatched roofs and antique furnishings. It takes its name from a classic Javanese folk tale, the story of which is depicted in one of the paintings that graces its walls. Guests will enter the villa through an impressive pair of towering teakwood doors. The central focus is the open-sided living pavilion, which is bordered by a 12 x 3.75-metre swimming pool fed by a waterfall, it is complemented by a stone terrace furnished with sun beds, and completed by a raised wooden deck at one end. The property is comprised of three buildings, bounded by a series of beautiful garden areas, well-stocked with flowering trees and shrubs. Cows graze in the neighbouring fields, and a tree lined valley with a small stream runs along one side. There is a secure car parking area at the main entrance.

Living Pavilion
The main pavilion houses a living area, a bedroom and a library. Slightly raised above the garden, it enjoys cool breezes and gorgeous views. On one side of this symmetrical pavilion is a cosy living area with a built-in cushioned sofa, and big, dish-shaped, water-hyacinth chairs in which you can curl up and watch movies on the large 42-inch plasma screen satellite TV, which is mounted upon the wall. There is also a DVD player and a quality surround sound hi-fi system. On the other side is a small pool table and another built-in sofa.

Library
The library is located in the main living pavilion beside the grand front entrance. It boasts a cream decor and a wall of built-in book shelves and cupboards. The open doorway to the library showcases an ornately carved Chinese window frame.

Tengah Room
Tengah means middle, and this peach-themed air-conditioned bedroom is centrally located in the main living pavilion. The built-in queen-size bed is made up with a sumptuous silk cover and scatter cushions, with colour-coordinated organza curtains. The bedroom is equipped with a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a flat-screen TV mounted upon the wall. The room is ornamented with bright artwork, a full length mirror, a Buddha head and local artifacts. Double doors lead into the en-suite open-air bathroom, which is set beside a pebbled garden complete with a traditional Palimanan stone frieze depicting a scene from the Hindu epic tale of the Ramayana. An open-air shower is protected from the elements by the roof canopy, and a large washbasin rests beneath an exquisite cast bronze circular mirror. The toilet is alcoved to one side, together with some fitted cupboards.

Dining Pavilion & Kitchen
An ornamental pond under a covered pergola is traversed by stepping stones linking the main living pavilion to the dining pavilion. A bubbling fountain creates the serene sound of running water. The pavilion is characterised by two pairs of disc-shaped Chinese window panels, another Palimanan stone frieze is set into the wall; a carved chaise long is positioned outside the entrance. Steps leads down into the immaculate kitchen; this dream in dark grey polished terrazzo, is light and airy and fully equipped, and it is here that the staff will prepare delicious meals, served through the large open hatch adjacent to the alfresco dining area. The hatch is framed by another ornate window panel, and doubles as a bar with high stools positioned on the side that enjoys the open air. The dining area is sheltered by a soaring roof, and furnished with a chunky modern dining table for six, polished penshell wall lamps, a large antique cabinet, and a brass candi resting upon a stone carved plinth. A large guest powder room is located within a walled garden at the back of the pavilion, guarded by a lava stone statue of a Balinese goddess.

Bunga Room
Wooden steps within the dining pavilion lead up to the charming loft bedroom known as the Bunga (flower) Room. At the front of the room is a timber mezzanine – a delightful sitting area furnished with water hyacinth chairs, coffee table, and an Oriental rug. The Bunga Room is characterised by coffee and peach silk and organza soft furnishings, while being equipped with air-conditioning, a queen-size bed, a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a wall-mounted flat screen TV. The en-suite bathroom is lined with natural dark grey stone and fitted with a stainless steel washbowl upon a pedestal, a rain-shower, and toilet. The adjoining stone sundeck presents rice field views; it is bordered by a low wall planted with pink bougainvillea.

Master Suite
The Master Suite is housed within a self-contained bungalow with a soaring thatched roof, and located on the far side of the main living pavilion. It is accessed by a pebbled pathway lined with yellow irises next to a sculptured Palimanan stone wall. The ‘Nandi’ bedroom boasts a grey terrazzo floor and a magnificent four-poster bed adorned with primitive-style Timorese carvings. The silk bed cover and cushions, and organza curtains follow a copper and chartreuse theme, and the furnishings include three green Oriental rugs, a leather sofa and matching ottomans, a funky table, and an antique Javanese ‘gerobok’ rice-storage chest on wooden wheels. A wood carving of Ganesha dances upon a shelf behind the bed. Double glass doors open onto a timber balcony offering rural views; this is a pleasant private spot where you can relax on a deck chair with a book or a cocktail. Another large window overlooks a pretty garden area, also accessed by double doors. The room is equipped with air-conditioning, a mini bar-fridge, a safe deposit box, and a flat-screen TV mounted on the wall; a spacious dressing area is furnished with a full length mirror, built in cupboards and a leather seat. The wonderful en-suite garden bathroom boasts a terrazzo vanity shelf with a marble wash bowl, a large decorative mirror, and a toilet and rain-shower positioned in opposite alcoves. The dominant feature is a huge oval bathtub where you can soak to your heart’s content under the stars, while still being sheltered by the roof canopy and enjoying the privacy that is provided by the high walls.
