This stunning master bedroom accessed via a wooden bridge over a Balinese pond offers guests the ultimate of romance. This bedroom represents a combination of the yellow Solar-Plexus and the Crown Chakras, linking self esteem, intuition and a connection with spirit. Sahasrana
This large air-conditioned bedroom follows a violet color theme, representative of the Crown Chakra, meaning oneness with the infinite – peace and wisdom. The room is furnished with a super-king rattan bed and built-in wardrobes. The ensuite bathroom is fitted with a terrazzo bathtub, river rock washbasin, and a walk-in rainshower. A TV room is positioned next to the bedroom and creates the feeling of a large suite. There are stunning panoramic views from the terrace. This is an ideal family area as it is linked to the bedroom next door by a charming bridge.

Vissudha
This air-conditioned bedroom has an oval roof reminiscent of the hull of a ship, with sliding glass doors at front and windows that wrap around the sides. It is furnished with a king size bed and follows a blue color theme representing the Throat Chakra and the expression of truth through the power of the spoken word. A round window behind the bed looks into the dressing room, and behind this is a bathroom with a recycled ironwood floor. The bathroom is fitted with an over sized terrazzo bathtub, a glass walled shower, and a river rock basin on a tamarind wood vanity stand. There is a sweet balcony at the front for private relaxation.

Anahata
This circular air-conditioned bedroom is designed in the shape of a sacred spiral. It is located close to the main living and dining pavilion and follows a green theme representative of the Heart Chakra and the expression of love. It is furnished with a king bed and features a small dressing area with fitted wardrobes, as well as a private terrace, hidden by short hedges. The beautiful ensuite garden bathroom is fitted with a hollowed out river rock bathtub, twin river rock washbasins, and a standing rainshower.

Ajna
This circular air-conditioned bedroom is designed in the shape of a sacred spiral. It follows an indigo theme representative of the Third Eye Chakra, the channel of intuition. It is furnished with a king bed and features a small dressing area with fitted wardrobes. The ensuite garden bathroom is fitted with a hollowed out river rock bathtub, twin river rock washbasins, and a standing rainshower. There is also a private terrace, hidden by short hedges and shrubs; no bedroom is overlooked by any of the other buildings.

Svadhisthana
This circular air-conditioned bedroom is designed in the shape of a sacred spiral. It follows an orange theme representative of the Sacral Chakra – the utilization of creative forces in all aspects of being. It is furnished with a king bed and features a small dressing area with fitted wardrobes, as well as a private terrace, hidden by short hedges and shrubs. The ensuite garden bathroom is fitted with a hollowed out river rock bathtub, twin river rock washbasins, and a standing rainshower.

Muladhara
This circular air-conditioned bedroom is designed in the shape of a sacred spiral and positioned closest – of all the bedrooms – to the beach. It follows a red theme representative of the Base Chakra, the ground spirit force of the body and the ability to work lovingly on the physical plane. It is furnished with a king bed and features a small dressing area with fitted wardrobes, as well as a private terrace, hidden by short hedges and shrubs. The ensuite garden bathroom is fitted with a hollowed out river rock bathtub, twin river rock washbasins, and a standing rainshower.

Living Area
One enters Taman Ahimsa into a boat-like shaped bamboo facade living area with comfortable interior design of recycled wood furniture and Indonesian batik pillows. It is connected to a large dining area. This gracious living area is located in the main two-storey pavilion, which presides over the entire property.

There are two sitting areas facing the gardens and sea, one is an elevated section with two antique daybeds, a chair and a coffee table, while at the lower level are two long built-in couches facing the garden and sea, as well as a magnificent antique low table, created from an old wooden boat, complete with six chairs. On the other side of this level is an open-air deck, with a frangipani tree growing through the floor. Walls and ceilings in this building are lined with bamboo.

Dining Room
The dining room is incorporated in the elevated open plan living area with lovely views of the garden. It is furnished with a huge wooden dining table that seats 14, over which dangles a pair of exquisitely designed copper lanterns. Adjacent to this is an antique hand-carved wooden window panel, which frames the cooking area of the gourmet kitchen.

Entertainment Room
The TV room is located upstairs, between the large bedroom and the terrace. This spacious sitting room has a recycled ironwood floor, and comfortable rattan furnishings, as well as a 37″ TV and DVD player.

SERVICE & FACILITIES

Swimming Pool Area
The freeform 20-metre swimming pool is lined with green Java stone, and bordered by an ironwood deck furnished with over-sized rattan sun beds and umbrellas. It employs a low-to-no chemical ozone system that is soft on the earth and gentle on the skin. There is a large poolside lounge area here with connecting second pool dining area with kitchen and sitting area – ideal for leisure breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea and sunset gatherings. It also doubles as a yoga/martial arts studio. Two ‘bales’ or relaxation pavilions are in this area for therapeutic massages that can be arranged with some of the best masseurs on the island.

Meditation Circle
Positioned in the garden is a meditation circle marked by 16 stones and is available for guests’ use. Special meditation ceremonies can be arranged in this site.

Massage Bale
In a corner of the garden, immediately beside the beach, is a delightful elevated massage pavilion with antique wooden paneling, originally an old Javanese Joglo. This is one of several spots for a therapeutic massage, which can be arranged with a Balinese healer.

Garden
The enchanting garden meanders down to the swimming pool and beach, via stone pathways. The rolling lawns are dotted with palms and punctuated with lily ponds and lanterns, fragrant flowering trees and giant taro leaves, creating a stunning garden of peace, ‘Taman Ahimsa,’where one can discover spaces created for retreat.

Gourmet Kitchen
The spacious gourmet kitchen is conveniently positioned next to the dining area and is fully equipped with ample modern appliances and amenities – everything that the cooks need in order to prepare fresh, wholesome cuisine, using primarily organic vegetables and fruits, ayurvedic ingredients and fresh fish caught daily by our local fisherman.

Staff
The training of the staff and service at Taman Ahimsa is based on the philosophy of the home and with an experienced anticipation of the needs of guests visiting Bali. There is an onsite manager to directly communicate any requests from guests, ranging from restaurant reservations to horse riding, surfing, cycling, fishing, rafting, hiking and unique cultural experiences. Taman Ahimsa is supported by a carefully selected team of well-trained, friendly staff. Location

Upon arrival, your senses will be awakened by the purity, spirit and timelessness of an extraordinary landscape. You will be greeted by welcoming Balinese smiles, the fragrance of tropical flowers and the constant sound of the waves.

The two-storey villa is characterised by white Yogya stone walls, cream terrazzo tiled floors, limewashed timbers, and a colonnaded walkway on either side, on both ground and upper floor levels. A single-storey guest wing, linked to the main building, presents two guestrooms and a media room. The style is modern and minimalist, cleverly blending sophisticated elegance with the ambience of the setting. The architectural concept reveals comfort and simplicity, while the interiors unobtrusively introduce natural materials, fabrics, and colours. There isn’t anything ostentatious about this villa; the chic simplicity ensures that nothing detracts from the incredible view.

The awesome vista takes in Bali’s chain of volcanoes from the mighty Mt Agung in the east, to Mt Pohen, Mt Sangkiang and Mt Batukau – the island’s second highest volcano – which rises from its foothills just 20 kilometres away, and majestically stands guard over Villa Babar. On the seaward side is a windswept beach of glistening black sand, and a coastal panorama that extends all the way down to Uluwatu on Bali’s southwestern tip. On a clear day you can see Java; to the east you can watch the sunrise behind Mt Agung and, to the west, the sunsets are amazing.

Living Room
The villa is entered via an impressive open-air living room, complete with a soaring roof and an upper gallery on either side. Ocean breezes keep this welcoming living space delightfully fresh and cool.

It is simply furnished with large and comfortable cream sofas, ottomans, and a pair of carved coffee tables from Timor, together with a primitive Timorese wooden statue. A floating Yogya stone staircase leads to the upper floor, and a colourful framed patchwork of painted wood brings a splash of colour to the wall. This tropical room is open on two sides – on the seaward side is the garden, swimming pool and the ocean, while on the inland side is an ornamental pond presided over by a ‘floating’ 2.5-metre-high Buddha statue. Beyond the statue is an infinite vista of ricefields, unbroken by borders and fences, stretching as far as the eye can see. In another direction, a line of palm tress and jungle follows the path of a river.

Dining Room
The open plan dining room adjoins the feature kitchen, and has sliding glass doors on three sides, designed to be opened for a semi alfresco dining experience or closed when it becomes too breezy. A teak dining table, complete with stool seating, can accommodate up to 18 guests. With fabulous views of the garden, swimming pool and ocean, the dining room is complemented by mood lighting at night, and serenaded constantly by the rhythmic crashing of the waves on the beach below.

Kitchen
Open plan and adjacent to the dining room, Villa Babar’s immaculate, designer kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional beauty and cutting-edge style. It is fully equipped with an imported oven and five-burner hob, a double-door refrigerator, a built-in wine cellar and wine fridge, a cappuccino/espresso machine, a microwave, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals in accordance with your whims. This bright and airy kitchen is further enhanced by a sliding glass door at the far end overlooking the ricefields. A wet kitchen is tucked away out of sight at the back, linked by a hatch.

Lounge
Entered from the open-air living space via antique double doors from Java, the spacious lounge features three sets of sliding glass doors on two sides, which maximise the views and allow for the cross ventilation of sea breezes. Alternatively, these doors can be closed for air-conditioned comfort. Furnished with an L-shaped segmented sofa, ottomans and a coffee table handcrafted from coffee wood, the room is equipped with a sophisticated Harman/Kardon music system presenting surround sound with seven speakers and a wide choice of music. There is also a billiard table and a selection of books and games to keep you entertained. A fitted shelf unit showcases some fascinating Indonesian artefacts including stone carvings and wooden statues, in addition to some tribal shields from Irian Jaya.

Media Room
The media room is positioned in the single storey wing, with views of the mountains and ricefields. This spacious home theatre is equipped with a big, flat screen, satellite-channel TV and DVD player, as well as a library of books, DVDs and a computer for guest use with Broadband internet access.

Garden
There are gardens on all sides of the villa, including the Ganesha garden, and the Sumba garden, which is distinguished by a cluster of enchanting statues from Sumba. The entrance garden showcases an ornamental pond, presided over by a towering Buddha statue. The front garden is dominated by the swimming pool and a helipad rests to one side, for guests who choose to arrive in style with a thrilling helicopter ride along Bali’s dramatic coastline. The garden is just footsteps away from the beach on an elevated buff, 13 metres above sea level. The beach is good for surfing although the strong currents make it dangerous for swimming. A walk along the beach at sunset is delightful.

The Swimming Pool
The enticing 27 x 11 meter swimming pool is ideal for swimming laps, it is curved on one side, following the contours of the terraced garden, and there is a shelf at the inner edge, which is a nice place for relaxing in cool shallow water.

Bedrooms
Each bedroom is equipped with a safe deposit box and an iPod dock, and each has an ensuite bathroom. All bedrooms are blessed with magnificent views of the coastline, ocean and gardens, or the mountains and ricefields, or – in the case of the master bedroom – a panoramic vista in all directions. While all of the bedrooms feature white walls and simple furnishings, each portrays a theme inspired by the Indonesian culture. Wherever you choose to sleep, the melody of the waves will lull you to sleep.

6 Unique Bedrooms
Babar is the master bedroom, characterised by glass doors on two sides, enabling access from both sides of the building. It features a Yogya stone floor under a soaring roof with open beams. It is furnished with a kingsize bed, which is fitted with a deep mattress resting on a base of antique ironwood planks. There is also hanging space, a fitted sideboard, wooden statues from Kalimantan, and a desk next to a wide window, overlooking the ricefields and Mt Batukau. There is a broad sunny terrace at the front of this room, offering wonderful views of the coastline and the night sky. Accessed by glass doors, the ensuite bathroom is light and airy, long and spacious, with picture windows positioned on three sides to maximise the stunning views. The bathroom is fitted with double washbasins, mirrors, a toilet, and double rainshowers.

Toraja The Toraja guestroom is located on the upper floor overlooking the ocean. Accessed via sliding glass doors, it features a soaring roof and is furnished with a kingsize bed, oriented towards the sea. There is also a pair of funky stone pebble lamps, artefacts from Toraja in Sulawesi, and a dressing area and hanging space behind the bed. The adjoining sunny, open-air bathroom is bordered by Yogya stone walls for privacy, yet still offers views of the ricefields and mountains. It is fitted with a bathtub for two in a cream terrazzo surround, twin washbasins, a large wall mirror and a toilet, all sheltered from the elements by an overhanging roof. There is also a raindrop shower open to the sky, complete with a handheld shower, a black pebble floor with stepping stones, and a fringe of yellow irises.

Asmat The Asmat guestroom is located on the ground floor facing the ocean and a pretty corner of the garden with a collection of stone statues from Sumba. The room features glass doors on three sides. It is furnished with a kingsize bed, coffee wood lamps, a colourful painting, and a shelf and storage unit immediately behind the bed. The adjoining garden bathroom is fitted with a bathtub for two with a huge, cream terrazzo surround, twin ceramic washbasins, a walk-in raindrop shower with the additional provision of a handheld shower, carved wall mirrors and a toilet hidden behind a low louvre door. The private garden features a small lawn, planted with torch ginger, shrubs and palms.

Dayak The Dayak guestroom is a spacious family room on the upper floor facing the ocean. It furnished with two kingsize beds and features hanging and storage space, and two sets of sliding glass doors at the front. The room is decorated with artefacts from the Borneo’s legendary headhunters, the Dayak tribesmen, who inhabit Kalimantan’s deep interior highlands. The ensuite bathroom is the same as the bathroom adjoining the Toraja guestroom.

Agung The Agung guestroom is located in the single-storey wing with views of the mountains and ricefields. It is furnished with twin beds that can be pushed together, and features built-in hanging space in one corner and storage shelves behind the bed. It is named after Mt Agung, Bali’s highest and most sacred volcano, which can be seen from this bedroom on clear days, especially in the mornings and evenings. A painting of the mountain adorns one wall. Sliding glass doors open to the gardens on two sides of the room. The pretty garden bathroom is fitted with twin washbasins, a toilet and a raindrop shower that is open to the stars. The garden is planted with an ancient frangipani tree.

Ganesha The Ganesha twin-bedded guestroom and ensuite bathroom is located in the single storey wing with views of the mountains and ricefields, and its a mirror version of the Agung guestroom. It is named after the Ganesha Statue in the adjoining garden. Ganesha is the elephant headed Hindu God of making things happen and the remover of obstacles.

Bathrooms
Sunny ground floor bathrooms are open to private walled gardens planted with flowering shrubs and palms, while upstairs guest bathrooms are open to the sky, bordered by stone walls for privacy and blessed with views of the mountains and rice fields. Accommodation at the villa includes five spacious bedrooms with lavish ensuite bathrooms, an elevated open air living room, a stand-alone dining pavilion, a comfortable home theatre incorporating a game room with built-in bar, and a feature kitchen. Bedrooms
The five expansive bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. All have timber floors and all are equipped with TVs, DVD players and iPod docks. Four bedrooms are furnished with king size beds and one is furnished with twin beds that can be converted to a king bed. All have walk-in robes apart from the twin bedroom, where the wardrobes are positioned in the corridor. Ensuite bathrooms feature andesite floors, granite vanities, white bathtubs and walk in mosaic showers. Four of the bathrooms boast an outdoor shower as well as an indoor shower.

The standalone Master Suite is blessed with beautiful views. It features an entrance hallway, full length walk-in robes, and a bathroom with double washbasins and a double bathtub extending into a large private garden, which is the location of the open air shower. At the front is a covered terrace leading onto a timber deck with a Jacuzzi. Additionally, steps lead down to a private bale relaxation pavilion, bordered by plants for privacy. There is also a double hammock to enjoy the sea breeze.

Two of the guest bedrooms are complemented by a private garden area with a pergola covered daybed. There is a separate guest suite set on two levels comprising a spacious master guest bedroom with its own hallway, walk-in robe, large bathroom with double basins and private terrace area overlooking the lush gardens to the ocean. A twin bedroom on the lower level also has its own bathroom and garden level terrace.

Living Room
The open air Living Room is accessed by a covered walkway, and rests on the upper level of a two-storey pavilion affording magnificent elevated views of the garden, the sea temple and Bali’s spectacular coastline all the way down to Uluwatu on the Island’s extreme southwest peninsula. This luxurious, comfortable living space is furnished with antiques and characterised by two distinct sitting areas.

Media Room
The Media Room is located beneath the open air living room and features a timber floor, a casual bar for house guests, and a games area with a pool table, a card table and a dart board. At the opposite end, there is an L-shaped sofa, two arm chairs, ottomans, and home theatre with a large flat screen TV with satellite channels, a DVD player, and a Bose surround sound system. A door leads into a guest washroom. The media room overlooks an expansive timber deck which borders the swimming pool.

Dining Pavilion
Surrounded by ornamental ponds, the stand-alone dining pavilion is furnished with a glamorous chandelier and a circular dining table that can be extended to seat up to 15 people in air-conditioned comfort. The splendid view of the sea temple is preserved by floor to ceiling bi-fold glass doors, which can be fully opened to allow the cool breezes to permeate and create a more casual, alfresco dining experience.

Kitchen
Villa Semarapura’s designer kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional beauty and style, making it a social hub with family and friends. Crafted in polished granite with two islands – one of which supports its own sink – white cabinets, a tiled floor, a skylight in the roof, and a service bar with bar chairs, this featured kitchen is fully equipped with an imported oven and 5-burner hob, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the whims of his guests. A service area is tucked away out of sight at the back.

Garden & Pool
The property rests within an expansive landscaped garden complete with a private swimming pool and ornamental ponds. Dotted with coconut palms, the rolling coastal lawns are perfect for weddings, parties and functions. On the most elevated corner of the garden overlooking the beach, is a raised open-sided pavilion, known as a bale bengong – a peaceful haven for chilling out with a book, or enjoying a massage or a sunset cocktail.

In another part of the garden, a huge timber deck and barbeque is bordered by a large alfresco bar, complete with a drinks chiller fridge and bar stools. This area is specially designed to cater for events and weddings.

Entering the villa, the staff quarter is set on the corner of a large covered parking separated from the villa area. Stepping ahead, a traditional Balinese gate and “Palimanan” stair leads down to the villa to reach a first opened sitting area. From here the visitor can appreciate the perspective of the villa with the infinity pool ending in the Indian Ocean.

Separated by an isle with a water fountain, each of the first two buildings is featuring one bedroom nicely set in cottage style each with private entrance. On the right side, the Jacuzzi Suite is featuring a private garden with a wall fountain and outdoor shower, the bedroom with en suite bathroom including bath tap, toilet and two basins, a walking dressing and a private Jacuzzi accessible directly from the bedroom. Designed by the internationally acclaimed architect, Guy Morgan, the estate is resourcefully integrated into the natural terraced contours of a hill. It is comprised of a series of thatched pavilions, housing a remarkable open Living Pavilion, an elevated Dining Pavilion, an Entertainment Room, two Kitchens and five Bedrooms, complete with an additional smaller room which can be used for a children or nanny’s bedroom.

The buildings are linked by pergola-covered walkways, achieving a unique sense of space within a natural setting. Maximising the spectacular views and the natural light, and catching the cool breezes even at the hottest time of year, the property offers a blend of air-conditioned comfort and tropical open-air living.

There are numerous relaxation areas, so guests will always find a private spot for peace and quiet. It is ideal for large groups or families with children. Puri Bawana is a member of the Canggu Club (Bali’s first country club) and its guests are eligible to use the club facilities.

Entrance
Guests enter the estate via a spacious car parking area. An antique door then opens into a grand entrance pavilion complete with a carved Palimanan stone screen and a Balinese Hindu feature known as the ‘aling aling’, a short screen wall designed to protect the villa from troublesome and malign influences, because evil spirits have great difficulty in turning corners. Guests will then cross a timber bridge over a reflecting ornamental pool.

Living Pavilion
The magnificent Living Pavilion presides over the property. It is flanked by a terrace laid with grass-edged Palimanan paving stones, and overlooks the swimming pool, terraced gardens and rice fields. This open-sided pavilion is modelled upon the traditional Balinese ‘Wantilan’, or village meeting place, with a soaring, two-tiered roof supported by pillars, complete with pendulous lanterns and ceiling fans above a mint-white sandstone floor. The expansive space is furnished with two comfortable sofas, ottomans, a coffee table, a decorative, antique Javanese daybed, and a pair of white coconut shell chairs with a small matching table. The Living Pavilion is linked to the rest of the villa by a covered, colonnaded walkway with black and white chequered tiles. Off the walkway is situated a guest washroom decorated with Indian stone tiles and accessed by a colourful, antique Balinese door.

Dining Pavilion
The open-sided Dining Pavilion is elevated above a high buttresses composed of indigenous serai stone, portraying a geometric jigsaw of shapes. A long suar wood dining table seats up to 14 dinner guests. The pavilion is cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans and commands fabulous views of the bordering rice fields.

Kitchens
There are two fully equipped kitchens at Puri Bawana Estate servicing the villa, one is the service kitchen and the other is a state-of-the-art kitchen positioned next to the dining pavilion and linked by a large service bar. This immaculate, designer kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional beauty and cutting-edge style. Crafted in black marble with a central island, silver grey units and glassless shuttered windows, it is equipped with a hob, oven, wine fridge, coffee machine and other high tech appliances. There is even the provision of a sound system.

Kids’ Bedroom / Nanny’s Room
A staircase leads down under the Dining Pavilion to a small ’spill-over’ room, which can sleep up to five kids. It is fitted with bunk beds and is also suitable for a children’s nanny. There is a bathroom next door with a toilet, shower and washbasin.

TV & Entertainment Room
Also located under the Dining Pavilion, is the air-conditioned TV and Entertainment Room. The room is equipped with a ceiling fan, teak wall units, and a large satellite TV mounted upon the wall, complete with surround sound, a DVD/CD player, and a Wii Game System. The furnishings?two large sofas, a glass-topped antique coffee table and two ottomans?can be pushed back against the wall to create an impressive party space. In one corner is a bar that can double as a DJ’s nook. Glass doors open from the Entertainment Room onto a terrace with a pergola supported by serai stone pillars beside the pool deck. Furnished with an outdoor dining table for eight, this is a great spot for a barbeque.

Swimming Pool & Garden
The swimming pool is 30 metres in length, incorporating a kids’ pool at one end. It is lined with rustic blue Java stone and the curved infinity edge follows the contour of the rice terraces.

The Palimanan stone pool deck is furnished with sun loungers and there is an open-sided ‘bale’, relaxation pavilion, positioned within the pool and accessed by stepping stones. Additionally, a raised walkway leads to an elevated bale, a traditional lazy, breezy gazebo with a thatched roof, open sides and a cushioned floor. There is an outdoor dining table with seats for 8, that is often used for outdoor barbeques and casual daytime dining.

This is the place to relax, contemplate and meditate, overlooking the river and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, butterflies and birds. A wide flat lawn planted with four palms is the ideal setting for parties, weddings and events. A pathway leads down to the river and the gardens spill out into the padi fields to a traditional pavilion designed for wedding ceremonies.

There is also an herb garden and an environmentally-friendly waste water garden. If the timing is right, guests will have the opportunity to plant some rice. Many of the rice fields that surrounded the villa are part of the estate.

On the far side of the river, a picturesque rice terrace is carved like an amphitheatre into the contours of the land.

Bedrooms
The air-conditioned Master Suite features a warm timber floor and sliding glass doors on three sides under a high roof. The modern furnishings include a king-size four poster bed, a couch and a desk and chair.

A flat screen TV with DVD is hidden within a rising cabinet that appears at the press of a button. This bedroom is complemented by a spacious timber balcony, which looks across the river to the rice terraces beyond. Here, two cushioned daybeds provide the facility for complete relaxation.

A dressing area and wardrobes (complete with a safe deposit box) are built in behind the bed and linked to the en-suite air-conditioned bathroom, which features a black terrazzo floor and twin washbasins upon a central vanity unit with two mirrors. A toilet and walk-in raindrop shower are located in two separate cubicles with frosted glass doors. The bathroom extends into a large and private walled garden planted with travellers’ palms, spider lilies and torch ginger. Here, a romantic oversized bathtub rests in the open air, sheltered from the elements by the overhanging roof. There is also an open-air shower.

Suites 2 & 3 are located in the family building. Suite 2 is furnished with twin beds that can be converted into a double bed if required, while Suite 3 presents a king-size bed. Similar in style to the Master Suite with glass on two sides, both suites feature cool terrazzo floors and are equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, daybeds, reading lights, iPod docking stations, safe deposit boxes, desks and chairs.

Both suites feature a private dressing and vanity area, each with wardrobes, double washbasins, an indoor shower and a toilet. Suite 2 is complemented by a private garden bathroom similar to that of the Master Suite, complete with an open-air bathtub sheltered by the roof. Suite 3 overlooks the expansive lily pond, with its beautiful, raised, infinity-edge moon pool and cascading waterfall. Guests in Suite 3 can relax on an adjoining timber deck, and enjoy the delights of a sheltered, open air bathtub beside the water-garden.

Suites 4 & 5 are housed within a two-storey building and each is equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, daybeds, reading lights, iPod docking stations, safe deposit boxes, desks and chairs. Suite 4 is located on the lower level and is similar to the other suites with a king size bed and the additional provision of a walk-in wardrobe, a teak shelf unit, a floating vanity unit with double washbasins, and a combined shower and toilet fashioned from white, tumbled marble.

The garden bathroom is characterised by an open-air rainshower beside the lily pond and waterfall. There is also a relaxing area with built-in seats and shelves in the garden bathroom complete with an outdoor bathtub. An external staircase leads up to Suite 5, the only upstairs bedroom at the villa, affording gorgeous views of the rice fields and river valley.

The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and an ottoman upon a timber floor under a soaring roof. Behind the sleeping space is a dressing area complete with floating vanity unit with twin washbasins, an indoor shower and toilet and a built-in wardrobe.

An ornately tiled outdoor bathtub is positioned upon a breezy balcony, where there is also a cushioned daybed. Additionally, there is an open-air shower and, to one side, a glassless window presents a wonderful view that guests can enjoy from a cozy window-seat.

The Puri Bawana Estate is located in the fishing village of Canggu, within walking distance of the rugged beach, which is renowned for its world-class surf breaks. The locality is dotted with some of the most impressive villas on the island and the sweeping view is enhanced on clear days by the magical sight of the Bali’s mountains. This out of town setting offers the double attraction of being relatively close to the shops and restaurants of Seminyak, while also presenting a fascinating insight into the traditions of rural Bali. Cows are herded through the fields, rice is planted and harvested throughout year, and the sound of ritual music is carried on the breeze.

Villa Arika sits just back of the dunes on one of Bali’s best west-coast surfing beaches. Finish in April of 2002, it offers views of the Bukit to the south, to the north lie palms, rice terraces and a series of headlands, the nearest of them surmounted by a charming temple. From the master bedroom, you have a view of Mount Agung Bali biggest, most sacred volcano.

The Villa
This four-bedroom property is situated on 1.2 hectares on the beach and has amazing sunsets. There are two sleeping pavilions, each has an ocean view, air conditioning, ensuite bathroom with large bathtub and an outdoor shower in the very private garden and are beautifully finished with wooden floors and king sized beds. All of the bedrooms have a large outdoor patio/veranda with a large cushioned day bed. The villa has been built so that there are ocean views from every room in the house. Villa Arika is decorated in an eclectic fashion with a very tasteful mix of classic wood and marble pieces along with more contemporary rattan furniture. The cushions and silk pillows are made of fabrics from all over Asia and are in rich hues of purple and gold. The artwork has been collected by the owner the past 25 years and is from some of Indonesia most famous artists.

Upon entering the grounds, via the Balinese entrance gate, one finds oneself entering an extraordinary courtyard with lush tropical trees, flowers and plants and a trickling array of fountains. As you walk along the path to the 10 meter high outdoor living area, you pass by 4 ancient stone Balinese statues. Stone steps takes you across the fish pond and you enter the outdoor living area.

Upon entering you are immediately struck by the amazing views of the ocean that are just past the swimming pool and gardens. International architect, Gary Fell, generates solutions that blend style with nature. Rooftop water-lily ponds serve the double purpose of being aesthetically pleasing to the eye while, at the same time, providing a natural cooling system as each roof acts as a dense thermal insulator. The swimming pool employs an advanced ioniser filter system, and a water recycling system allows waste water to be reused in the gardens. The villa with its two roof top water gardens, is cleverly landscaped into the contours of the hill.

Entrance
Villa Niloufar is approached via a spacious car park with a security post and an openwork metal pivot gate. Guests will then walk past the first of the two, stunning rooftop lily ponds as they descend a stone stairway into the main, open-air entrance area with its natural stone walls. From here, the full visual impact of the villa takes effect. Eyes will be drawn along the length of an elevated, ornamental pond, past immaculate lawns towards the swimming pool, the river and rice terrace beyond. A pair of welcome statues from the island of Nias rest in front of the entrance hall, and from here guests will look across to the main living and dining area capped with another lotus pond roof.

Living & Dining Room
The expansive living and dining area is open on three sides and features a terrazzo floor. It is cooled by natural breezes and ceiling fans, and amply furnished with an abundance of large segmented daybeds, ottomans and cushions. The decor presents fresh white and natural stone walls complemented by teakwood panels. An antique Timorese dining table for twelve is positioned next to a terrazzo bar, while rustic artwork and primitive statues complete the fusion of ancient and avant-garde. There is a spacious guest washroom located off the living area, complete with a walk-in rainshower.

Kitchen
The kitchen is conveniently located behind the bar, close to the dining area. It is fully equipped with everything that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the needs and whims of his guests. A wet kitchen and a laundry are both tucked away out of sight at the back, together with the service area, staff quarters and staff entrance.

TV Room
The air-conditioned TV room is located off the living room, and is fully equipped with the hi-tech facilities of a Pionner home theatre, including a Samsung 42-inch plasma TV with 45 channels, a Pionner DVD/CD player, a Sansui 4X300 watts amplifier, and four BMB speakers – sufficient power for a discotheque! The room is furnished with comfy segmented sofas and a built-in terrazzo shelf unit.

Gym
The gym is located a lower level than the main living and dining area, underneath the swimming pool and overlooking the river. It is accessed by descending an external stairway. The villa gym includes a range of excellent equipment with elliptic, power plates, treadmill, steps… and air conditioning (of course!). There is also a TV and DVD player in the gym and an outdoor shower on the approach.

Bedrooms
There are five self-contained bedrooms at Villa Niloufar, three of which are tucked under a lotus pond roof. There are two master bedrooms; one is located on an upper level and is very private with a terrace and daybed overlooking the magnificent lotus pond above the living area. This spacious room features sliding glass doors to maximise the spectacular view, a custom built teakwood king size bed, hanging space and storage units. The adjoining bathroom is equipped with washbasins carved out of rock and a walk-in shower and toilet within separate glassed areas. An additional walled, garden, bathing area, open to the sky and planted with palms and bougainvillea, is dominated by an oversized, deep bathtub, which has also been carved out of solid black rock.

The second master bedroom embraces lovely views of the garden and terraced rice field. Doors on either side of the king size teak bed open into the bathroom, complete with a large terrazzo tub, twin washbasins, a walk in shower and toilet.

The remaining three bedrooms are all quite similar to each other, yet each one has its own characteristics. Each is furnished with a king size bed and built in wardrobes and storage space. Each bathroom is equipped with a walk-in rainshower, twin washbasins and a toilet. One of these bedrooms features an outdoor shower in a walled garden bathroom. Each bedroom is equipped with a safe deposit box.

Swimming Pool & Massage Bale
The 17 x 5 metre, swimming pool is located beside the living area. It features an infinity edge on two sides, and is bordered by an ironwood deck that extends the length and one side of the pool. No chemicals are used in the pool; instead it employs an advanced ioniser filter system that is soft on the earth and gentle on the skin. The deck is furnished with deeply cushioned, ‘Hishem’ synthetic rattan sunloungers. On the far side of the pool is a thatched riverside bale, which is a delightful spot for a massage.

Garden & River
The fast-flowing river is particularly beautiful; the river bank is accessed by a winding path and steps, and its jungle environs are restful and cool. The ‘bale bengong’ relaxation pavilion – an enchanting, lazy, breezy gazebo, sheltered by an alang alang roof and supported by pillars – is positioned in a strategic place, so that guests can relax and enjoy the tranquillity The Balinese word ‘bengong’ means ‘lost in thought’, and ‘bale’ means an abode, so a bale bengong is literally a ‘contemplation house’, designed for reflection, dreaming and meditation. Shady mature trees include majestic breadfruit, figs and towering palms, together with creepers and ferns. On the far side of the river is a picturesque rice terrace. The extensive grounds are landscaped with flat lawns punctuated with palms. From the swimming pool level, the garden cascades down to the valley; and is planted with many varieties of flowering shrubs. In addition to the main ornamental pond and the two rooftop lotus ponds, another pebble-lined pond rests beside the living area. Guests will be lulled by the soothing flow of the river and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, butterflies and birds.

The Setting
With over 100 meters of private beach frontage, Villa Sungai Tinggi has the ultimate sunset panorama with views over to the Jimbaran Bukit headland in the south across to the Java coastline in the west and the cloudy peaks of Gunung Agung to the north. Set on a 2,750 square meter, gently sloping grounds, studded with coconut palms and fragrant frangipani trees, with a crystal clear 18 meter x 4 meter lap swimming pool, this home is a wonderful retreat far from the gaiety of tourist Bali.

The villa is refreshingly uncomplicated and simple in design with the sympathetic use of traditional Balinese architectural concepts and utilization of the best of local timbers and handcrafted stones and offers you every modern amenity.

Living and Dining Areas
The stunning main 12-meter x 8 meter open living and dining pavilion has been designed for relaxation and entertainment and provides optimum enjoyment of the wonderful ocean, river and unforgettable sunset views. The pavilion with its high natural alang alang grass ceiling, the tall supporting coconut columns and the cool cream terrazzo paved floors is the very essence of tropical living. Overhead ceiling fans and gentle sea breezes keep everyone cool and the ample lounge area seating assures that there is room for everyone to relax. The lounge has a music system with surround sound speakers in the ceiling. The 3 meter handcrafted coconut shell dining table for 12 makes for easy and elegant dining.

A separate air-conditioned indoor study has a Television unit complete with VCD and Video systems. A second upstairs casual open living area also has a Television unit with VCD, Video and Play station systems as well as a pool table for your enjoyment.

The grounds are beautifully grassed and maintained. The wonderful 18 meter long swimming pool is lined with green stone with a Palimanan stone surround and is only meters away from the beach. A swim in the pool, a surf at one of Bali’s most popular surf beaches, a beach walk, a bike ride up to the village and its surrounds or a quiet fish at the rock pools are all only a matter of steps.

The villa has four air-conditioned bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. The villa has been designed with a master and study bedroom wings on ground level and a separate wing with two ground level bedrooms and a bedroom upstairs opening onto a casual living area. All the bedrooms have ocean views with large glass sliding doors. The cool and clean feel of dark teak timber floors underfoot have been used throughout and each bedroom has individual deluxe split air conditioning units as well as overhead ceiling fans.

The bedrooms have custom made oversized king beds with built in wardrobes. Often overlooked in tropical homes, all bedrooms have good quality curtains. The bedroom interiors have been tastefully furnished with a balance of modern rattan and collected antique furniture and artifacts.

Ombak Luwung (the name means Magnificent Waves in Balinese) is a completely private, self-contained villa right on Canggu Beach, which is midway between the busy Kuta district and the important Balinese temple of Tanah Lot (also home to the world famous Nirvana Golf Course). Just 300 meters up the beach you will find one of the top surf breaks in Bali – Echo Beach. Canggu itself is a quiet, Balinese village but we are only 20 minutes’ drive from the upmarket shopping and dining districts of Legian and Seminyak.

Villa Ombak Luwung comprises five ensuite bedrooms. The master bedroom faces the sea and connects via a bridge to a separate bathing pavilion surrounded by a quiet pond. There is one other ocean-facing bedroom while a third connects to a private garden with a massage pavilion (built for two) and an outdoor shower. Set in the midst of a huge lily pond, the other two bedrooms make up a two story structure. Upstairs provides expansive views out to sea while downstairs doubles as a study/media room.. In addition, Ombak Luwung provides a separate air-conditioned dining pavilion and a large open-air living room in the traditional wantilan design that looks out to the 17 meter, infinity-edge swimming pool, heated spa and, finally, the incredible sea view. Last but not least, our beautifully carved antique lumbung (rice house) is perfectly situated to provide a private retreat to enjoy the fantastic sunsets over Canggu Beach.

Location
Ombak Luwung is located at Jalan Nelayan (Street of the Fisherman) in the Canggu village area. Canggu is located approximately half way between the tourist district of Kuta and the important Balinese temple of Tanah Lot. We are about 45 minutes’ drive from the international airport. Within walking distance you will find the world famous Canggu surf beach (also known as Echo Beach) and the Tugu Hotel, which boasts an amazing collection of Indonesian antiquities on display as well as an excellent restaurant. Half an hour’s drive North, adjacent to the Tanah Lot temple, you will find the Meridien Resort and Nirvana golf course, frequently described as the most beautiful golf course in the world.

Going South towards Kuta and the airport, one comes to Seminyak and Legian with many fine restaurants and shopping opportunities. Our staff will be happy to provide recommendations and directions.

Staff
Ombak Luwung is managed by a Western-owned property management company and is fully staffed. This includes a full-time supervisor, housekeepers, cooks, gardeners, security staff and a full-time engineer to ensure that all facilities run smoothly. Our staff will look after your laundry and dry-cleaning needs and handle basic waiter service around the property. They can arrange transport, restaurant reservations and massage service at your request.

Events
Ombak Luwung is an ideal venue for events such as weddings and family gatherings. Small functions of up to 15 persons can be handled by our own staff and using our own catering supplies. Functions of more than 15 persons will require additional staff and supplies and are subject to additional rental charges. Events of more than 20 persons will require the purchase of an entertainment license from the local village authorities and may require the hiring of an event coordinator. Our proximity to several important Balinese temples means that we may be asked to observe noise restrictions or curfews. Please enquire for further details – with adequate time to prepare, we can assure you an unforgettable event.

Food & Beverage
Guests may have any or all meals prepared by our staff. The timing of meals is entirely up to you. We only request that the staff be given some advance notice of very early or very late meal requirements. There is no charge for meal preparation, but the costs of all food and beverage purchases are borne by the guests. The kitchen staff will manage a shopping account for which guests will be responsible. Groceries are purchased at local markets or supermarkets as needed.
